I noticed today that those daffodils I shot last week had started to bloom. I grabbed my camera on my way back from walking the dog this morning and got a few pictures. I did enhance the colors a bit and as always bumped the contrast.

<![CDATA[Perfect Vegetable for a Summer Day]]>Sun, 12 Feb 2017 05:00:00 GMThttp://pics2makeusmile.com/a-year-of-pics-2-make-u-smile/perfect-vegetable-for-a-summer-day
No, I did not make a typo. Today the temperature was above 80. It is the middle of February. Regardless, we had a nice family dinner and when asked what she would like for a vegetable, Macy suggested tomato, mozzarella and basil with balsamic: an odd choice for her since she has always turned her nose up to it in the past. She did eat the tomato and mozzarella but picked off the basil and still won't even smell the balsamic. I guess it's progress.... Delaney on the other hand LOVES this and devours it. I must admit, it's good stuff.

<![CDATA[Thank You for Being a Sustainer]]>Sat, 11 Feb 2017 05:00:00 GMThttp://pics2makeusmile.com/a-year-of-pics-2-make-u-smile/thank-you-for-being-a-sustainer
I choose to put my money where my mouth is. I listen to NPR a lot when I'm driving around for work, back and forth to the gym or school etc. I have on and off in the past given donations but this time I decided that I have used their service enough that I needed to become a sustainer and signed up to give a monthly donation. As a thank you gift they sent me these heart shaped chocolates. They are Belgian mocha flavored chocolate..... I can die now. You can see I didn't even wait to take a picture of them before sampling them. Yeah, they are that good. Thank you WUNC for all the great programming and these chocolates.

<![CDATA[GGI]]>Fri, 10 Feb 2017 05:00:00 GMThttp://pics2makeusmile.com/a-year-of-pics-2-make-u-smile/ggi
Today was Macy's 3rd meet of the season. It's been a few weeks and she has spent that time working on knees and toes. Her efforts were not wasted. While her scores didn't go up, her performance certainly did. GGI, Greensboro Gymnastics Invitational, is the largest meet in NC. It is far more competitive than her previous 2 meets and the scoring was a little bit tighter. I mention that to explain the score/performance issue. Regardless, she was extremely happy with herself and we, as always were very proud of her as well.
The results were as follows:
Beam: 9.35 - 2nd Place
Bars: 9.175 - 3rd Place
Vault: 9.025 - 5th Place
All Around: 36.45 - 5th Place

Here are the rest of the pictures from the meet and the video:

<![CDATA[Old Stand-by]]>Thu, 09 Feb 2017 05:00:00 GMThttp://pics2makeusmile.com/a-year-of-pics-2-make-u-smile/old-stand-by
Dinner is always difficult. I've talked about that before. I started the school year with great intentions of planning the week's meals on Sunday then doing the shopping for said meals on Monday and having everything I need for the week. Yeah, that lasted about 3 weeks.

I did happen to have chicken in the freezer today and with no other ideas, Macy requested her old favorite: chicken and pasta with broccoli. I have a very simple chicken recipe that makes a basic chicken. It takes about 20 minutes to make; completely doable for a school night. I always like the color of the chicken as it browns though. I don't cook it through on the stove though. It would require too much time and the color would get too dark so I brown it on the stove then complete cooking it in the oven. It's mighty tasty though.

<![CDATA[Working Hard]]>Wed, 08 Feb 2017 05:00:00 GMThttp://pics2makeusmile.com/a-year-of-pics-2-make-u-smile/working-hard3459305
Few people realize how many hours gymnasts put in to training to be able to do the skills they perform during a meet. I have published dozens of meets over the years. In the past few, I have started putting them to music. One song is more than enough to cover the entire competition although I usually pause it to put in the floor music that corresponds to the routine. In my opinion it makes it much more satisfying to watch. I digress.... My point is that the time they spend competing is less than 4 minutes per meet. The time they spend training is 16+ hours a week at the level Macy is currently training. It goes up from there. These girls are dedicated and I would also like to add that most are also on their schools' honor rolls. So not only are they amazing athletes but super smart as well. Every gym mom should be proud.

<![CDATA[Benefits of NC Weather]]>Tue, 07 Feb 2017 05:00:00 GMThttp://pics2makeusmile.com/a-year-of-pics-2-make-u-smile/benefits-of-nc-weather
Isn't technology great? Today, was phenomenally warm. While my Northern friends and family were digging out of yet another snow storm, Delaney and I went for a run. I took a minute to pause in the park to take a panoramic of our situation. I sent it to Lisa, my NJ friend who, naturally responded that she hated me. Of course in three months when I am sweating my butt off just getting into my car when the temperature is 105, I suppose they will have the last laugh.
Upon editing this picture, I happened to notice how far iPhone cameras have come in the past few years. You can zoom in to that house in the middle of the picture and clearly see the bricks and mortar. I'm not certain lugging my big camera around for anything but my sports pics is worth it any more!

<![CDATA[Who Knew Hedgehogs Would be so Popular?]]>Mon, 06 Feb 2017 05:00:00 GMThttp://pics2makeusmile.com/a-year-of-pics-2-make-u-smile/who-knew-hedgehogs-would-be-so-popular
As I was waiting for Macy in her guitar lesson today, I rolled down the window, reclined my seat and put my feet up. I looked down and saw my green Christmas hedgehog socks. (Before you say anything, yes, I wear Christmas socks all year long.) I started thinking about the choice of hedgehogs and realized I'd seen more hedgehog themed articles of clothing in the past few months than ever before. I also have a hedgehog scrub shirt. It got me thinking about how trends like this start. That line of thinking quickly became too complex and I dropped it, turned up my audio-book and zoned out.

<![CDATA[A Year and a Half Later]]>Sun, 05 Feb 2017 05:00:00 GMThttp://pics2makeusmile.com/a-year-of-pics-2-make-u-smile/a-year-and-a-half-later
In June 2016, Eyal and I went on a photography weekend in Brevard, NC. We spent 3 days hiking around with professional guides to 10 different waterfalls. I got several great pictures but never did anything with them.
In Nov 2015, we remodeled the dining room. It took us several months to get the furniture then we painted test swatches on the walls to decide on a paint color. We decided on Pussywillow within a few weeks. Then it took us another year to actually paint the room. Are you sensing a trend here? I did however, move relatively quickly after that. Before Christmas, I ordered these 2 prints of pics I took in Brevard. Then it only took me a few more weeks after receiving them to get them to AC Moore to have them framed. A week after they called me to let me know they were ready, I picked them up. A few weeks later and we actually have them hung up!
I have another project in mind for the other wall with which I will require Eyal's help. He is, as always, happy to help but I need to sit down and do my part. Yeah, you can tell just how on the ball I am with things like that.... I'll see if I can get that done this year.

<![CDATA[Hearts]]>Sat, 04 Feb 2017 05:00:00 GMThttp://pics2makeusmile.com/a-year-of-pics-2-make-u-smile/hearts
It's never too early to learn to play Hearts. It was a chilly evening and we were having a family night. The girls weren't interested in a board game so KC suggested a card game. KC started a fire and then we hunkered down for an evening of family time. Hearts is simple enough to grasp the basics so we played a few hands with hand down to get the hang of it then played a few more hands up. They did well considering it was their first time. We haven't introduced passing or really gotten into shooting the moon but for now, they are on the road to being competent. If they ever figure out how to count cards like KC can do, they will probably be better than I am. I can keep track of that kind of thing for maybe 2 hands but then they all get jumbled up and it's too hard so I usually just try not to take ANY tricks. Whatever works, right?
