As I was walking Floyd today I looked up and saw this very cool cloud pattern. The first time I remember seeing these types of clouds was the summer between my junior and senior year in high school. I was a camp counselor at ARC over at the elementary school which was about a half mile from my house. Since it was so close, I walked to work every day. There is a park across the street from my house that was adjacent to the school grounds so it was a great shortcut with the added benefit of being all pretty and green.
One day on my way to work, I looked up and stopped mid stride when I saw the clouds. It was reminiscent of an image I had seen of the parched desert. I paused to ponder the stark contrast between my surroundings and the image that had popped into my head. I remember gazing up at the sky for the remainder of my walk to work and this odd feeling of disjointedness. There were no repercussions or weird events that day so they weren't an omen or foreshadowing, just very distinct clouds.
I don't know why that particular memory has stuck with me for all these years but it has and every time I see clouds like this, the memory of that morning comes rushing back to me. I can even remember the smell of the grass and the feel of the air on my skin. It's not necessarily a great memory because I still get that odd sense of disconnection when I have remember it but fortunately, it is fairly short lived and I move on to other things.
And, yes, I did alter this photo as well to enhance it and increase the contrast. Enjoy!
I'm a mother of 2 girls living in NC. I've dabbled in photography on and off but really this is just for fun
