The reason we are in Disney in the first place is for Delaney's gymnastics meet. She competed in the Winslow Sand Dollar Invitational today. It's been 6 weeks since she last competed and that's a long time esp when there was a week long break in there for Christmas!
Delaney did fantastic though. Things started out a little shaky on floor when she almost lost it in her handstand forward roll but she fought for it and then left her less than stellar score (7.950) on the floor and came back on vault with a 9.000! Then came bars which for some reason, she had said she was worried about. Here she is completing her mill circle. I know it's blurry, I like that. It shows how fast she's moving and how hard she has to hold on to that bar to not fall off. Plus she has to stop right as she gets to the top. I can't imagine pulling that off! You can make out that her toes are pointed though. Any way, she had her best routine of her career and scored a 9.250 which was enough for 7th place! She finished off on beam with a respectable 8.550. They were scoring beam tough today so that was good for 8th place. Her overall score was really hurt by her floor routine so she only got 14th but we are still proud of her and best of all SHE is proud of herself and is ready to get back to the gym and get ready for next season.
All our girls did very well. Madi, Maggie, Anna and Avery esp. We are very proud of our Superior Gymnasts. Out of more than 30 teams competing yesterday, Superior took 4th!!!! AND, three of the top four teams were in our session. That means that if we were to compare Delaney's scores to ALL of the girls in her age group over all the sessions, she would have placed even more impressively. She was 86 out of 212 Level 4 gymnasts of all ages and 32/69 in her age group. That's better than 1/2 of the girls so we are extremely proud of her. Here is a link to the event results if you are interested.
I promise tomorrow will be more Disney-esque. But I couldn't allow this to go unnoticed and uncelebrated. I will put together a video of her competition, upload it to You Tube and put the link to that up here in the next few days so stay tuned.
I'm a mother of 2 girls living in NC. I've dabbled in photography on and off but really this is just for fun
