Today was the day. We had our annual fun run fund raiser. I've been the chairperson of this one since the school opened in 2008. The first 2 years we did it on our own and it was a TON of work with minimal returns. Last year I got a call from the PTA VP telling me about this sales pitch from Boosterthon. I rearranged my schedule on a Wed to drive to North Raleigh in the middle of the day, very skeptical but figured it couldn't hurt. By the end of the presentation I was hooked.
Last year we DOUBLED what we had raised the year before and this year we did even better assuming we collect the same percentage as last year. The biggest plus to this organization is that my responsibilities are next to nothing!!!! All the hours I put into setting it up and organizing it were simply taken care of by the Boosterthon guys. They come in for 9 days giving character education lessons every day. They take care of the prizes and get the kids super excited about the whole thing.
At the end of it, they come and set up the track and sound system and keep the kids running for 1/2 hour. Normally it's done outside but last night, I was dismayed when I woke up to the sound of a torrential down pour. Sure enough, when I got to the school this morning, our field was completely under water. Therefore we had to move it inside. Not terribly awful but it meant that instead of running 2 grades at a time, we had to do each one separately which made for a very long day.
Basically I danced and cheered for 1/2 hour for each of the six grades. I was so tired by the end of the day, my calfs were cramping, not something that normally happens to me. It was so worth it though. The kids had a great time.
A huge thank you to everyone who helped out, showed up and supported us. Maybe next year we won't have an issue with our field being under water if we raised enough to pay for our track. YAY!!!!
I'm a mother of 2 girls living in NC. I've dabbled in photography on and off but really this is just for fun
