Delaney's gymnastics buddy, Jessie, has a meet this weekend. The whole point of the buddy system is for the girls to support each other with little gifts and cards when meet time comes. Last night Delaney picked out this very nice journal with a decorative pen and a candy bar. There was some contention about the pen because the one she wanted to buy was $6! KC said no to that but found one at the register for under $2. Delaney was not happy, a condition made worse when we tried to use said pen only to find out it wouldn't write. Of course, KC had left to go to movie night with the guys by this point. It was getting close to bedtime and this was NOT a battle I chose to fight at 8:30 on a school night. In the interest of getting Delaney to bed at a reasonable hour, I promised to go back to the store today and get one that did work. To my surprise, that was sufficient! So I kept my promise and bought another pen today, wrapped it up in ribbon and had it ready to go to the gym with Macy since Delaney didn't have practice today. That was another potential point of contention that resolved better than I could have hoped. Macy was carpooling with some other families to get to the gym this afternoon and I was picking up but not until much later. Delaney was not going to be there at all. She had to choose weather the gift was to go with Macy (always a sketchy proposition as she is not known for her attention to detail) and get there before Jessie left, or send it with me later and risk Jessie leaving before I had a chance to drop it off. She started to protest but realized without any prompting that she had to make a choice. She chose getting it there with Macy. I helped by giving it to the mom who was driving to help ensure it's safety and delivery. I was actually pretty impressed by Delaney's lack of a meltdown twice in a row on the same topic at the end of a long week. Is this the light at the end of the tunnel of childhood unreasonableness or is it a feint? Only time will tell.
I'm a mother of 2 girls living in NC. I've dabbled in photography on and off but really this is just for fun
