When the girls were still little, KC and I decided to make their birthday parties gift free. We encouraged the guests to make a donation to a charity instead. The first few years, many people still brought gifts but eventually, people actually started to believe me when I said no gifts. Over the years, this has gained in popularity and now I have become the beneficiary of such a party. Well, not me directly but my Haiti trip.
One of Macy's teammates also collects money for charities for her parties. Two years ago, she collected for the relief aid in Haiti just after the earthquake. A few weeks ago her mother, Amy, heard me talking at the gym about my trip. That evening she asked her daughter if she would like to donate to my trip to Haiti as a follow up to her donation of two years ago. She happily agreed so, Amy contacted me to see what I was collecting. I gave her the list of diapers, wipes, formula, bottles, clothes and shoes.
The party was today. I was floored when I saw all the donations that she collected for me! Over the past few weeks, I have been blown away by the generosity demonstrated by people. Lynn, Lora and I will have a time fitting all this in our bags. Not to mention I still have my donation jar at the 'Bou to spend.
On a similar note, I also received my mosquito netting, travel pillow and passport holder in the past few days. It's getting very close! I'm anxious.
I'm a mother of 2 girls living in NC. I've dabbled in photography on and off but really this is just for fun
