While Macy was at the gym today, Delaney and KC decided to go outside to play with the Booster Bolts. Basically they are Nerf footballs cut out to fit over a swim noodle with foam fins at the other end. The girls won them as prizes for raising money during Boosterthon. They have been playing with them pretty regularly for months. The ball on one of them has come ungled by this point so the girls have to throw overhand lest it come flying off as they attempt to toss is underhand. They have been tossing them up to bounce them off the garage roof. I think we may have to glue the sucker back on for them to continue that game.
Anyway, KC and Delaney went out into the street to toss these things back and forth. I was slightly astounded at the volume of traffic at that time of night and irritated at how fast some of the drivers went. This is a residential street lined with houses that are filled children. On a beautiful spring evening, it should be expected that some of them may be outside playing. The posted speed limit is 25. We live 3 houses from the corner. There is no way they should be going 40-45 by the time they go past our house, yet they are!
Several years ago, I started a movement for "traffic calming" on our street and was told that when the new development opened at the end of Modena the builder, Centex, was going to pay for chicanes since that development would make Modena a through street rather than a dead end. Well, that was about 7 years ago, the development is fully built and open and we are still waiting for the chicanes. Maybe it's time for someone to start the movement again. However, that is not a dragon I feel like slaying. I have enough on my plate already. Guess that makes me part of the problem then, huh?
OK, this post did not go in the direction I had anticipated! Oh well! That's the great thing about blogs. There are no rules!
I'm a mother of 2 girls living in NC. I've dabbled in photography on and off but really this is just for fun
