Delaney had her piano recital this evening at the First Methodist Church in downtown Cary. She has been taking lessons for a little over a year now and has made tremendous progress. During that year, she has grown up in more than just her musical ability. The tween years start at 9 apparently and getting this child into a dress would take a force of nature! Before I would let her go out and play with her friends, I told her she needed to have her outfit picked out. I had previously warned her that she was going to have to get dressed up and that I was NOT under any circumstances going to buy her anything new since she'd only wear it once or twice. I went up to help her pick something out and it ended badly with me throwing up my hands and walking out. I tod her that she would have to stay in her room until she had decided on something and it was approved by me. It took about 5 minutes to come to terms with the fact that jeans were not acceptable and this was as dressed down as I was willing to let her go. I did relent on the need for her to wear a dress, I'm not completely incapable of compromise!
Of she went to play until about 5:00 when I made her come in and shower. All nice and clean, I put her hair up in a bun, her current favorite "grown up" hair style. Considering her hair is just barely past the nape of her neck, this is no small feat. I did manage to get it up to her satisfaction however. She ate her dinner in her robe, then donned her outfit and off we went.
Mandy brought Ben and Grandma and of course KC, Macy, my mother and I were all there to hear her perform. Sitting behind this ENORMOUS piano she looked so tiny but she played 4 songs clear as could be. 3 of them were duets performed with Mrs. Cook providing some rhythm in the bass range which really made her music sound even better. She was amazing. She was nervous which is to be expected and which would explain the attitude earlier in the day but once she got going, everything just flowed beautifully. We are all so proud of her.
After the performance, KC presented her with flowers and we all headed out to Skinny Dip for a celebratory dessert. All in all a very fine evening.
I'm a mother of 2 girls living in NC. I've dabbled in photography on and off but really this is just for fun
