A few years ago, for Christmas, KC gave me a Garmin Forerunner 305. I have used it well including training for both of my 1/2 marathons. About 6 months ago, it started acting a little wonky. It took some finessing to connect to the computer so I could charge it or upload my workouts.
Today, I was going to go for a run and realized I hadn't charged it in a few days so while I warmed up by taking Floyd out for a walk, I plugged it in. When I got back, it was still not fully charged but since I wasn't going to a long run, I figured it'd be good enough and I unplugged it.
I brought it outside so it could locate the satellites while I stretched. I pressed the power button and alas, nothing happened. Figuring it just needed more juice, I brought it in and plugged it back in. Nothing. I finagled it every way I could think of but still had just a blank screen.
I had to do my run with just a plain old timer; no heart rate monitor, no GPS tracking, no mileage. I was a little lost! I normally take a drink every 1/4 mi. I had to go by time which threw me off! I came home and researched new GPS units.
I had done some research when my 305 first started to go but given our financial situation at the time, and since the it was still functional for the most part, I put that on the list of things to buy when things loosen up. I looked at TomToms and the NIke ones but neither got as good reviews as the Garmins. The upgrade of the 305; the 405, also got terrible reviews so I looked at a few other options most notably the 110. KC also did the same research and came to the same conclusion. Just to be sure I looked again and found Garmin had updated the 405 and called it the 405cx and people in general, were very pleased with it. It had a few functions the 110 didn't have although it was a little bigger. It was also slightly less expensive.
KC had had a bad day and I had to pile on that my GPS had broken. He told be not to worry because he had a fix. That fix was, as you may have guessed, a new one he had already bought for me for mother's day. He, however was unaware of the 405cx and hod gotten me the 110. When I told him about the cx though, he brought the 110 back and ordered me the 405cx from Amazon. I now anxiously await it's arrival.
