Last night, after I had already uploaded my picture of the day, KC and the girls insisted that I open my birthday presents early. I have been flat out telling KC I wanted the Nikkor 50mm f1.8G since I got back from Tech last month but it's been backordered the entire time. My sneaky husband actually managed to get on the list and nab one! Yay! I was thrilled. He even got top of the line filters. B&H was running a special: buy a lens and save on Lightroom 4 (a photo editing software) so I got a copy of that as well. I was a very happy photog.
We retired into our room where I was greeted by a box on my pillow. It was a Stonehaven box and I was startled to think there may be jewelry in there. I opened it to find a new 64M SD card. Cool! When I lifted it out however, there was a thin strip of paper behind it with a URL printed on it. I pulled up my browser and typed it in. What popped up made me absolutely speechless. It was the receipt for the lens and at the bottom of it was an item I never in a million years would have expected. He bought me a D800! Unfortunately, Nikon has a history of not making enough for demand and this was no different. It's been on backorder since it was released on Feb 7. I did a little research on-line and my best guess at this point it a 2 month wait. To pass the time, I went to the Nikon website and downloaded the owners manual. I should have plenty of time to read it in it's entirety (440+pages) before the camera arrives. Maybe 2 or 3 times! Wouldn't it be great if I got it before I left for NY? I'm not overly optimistic. Basically, the adivce most people give is order it and forget I've done so. It will eventually get here. Until then I will just enjoy my new lens and hone my skills in preparation for "the arrival."
I'm a mother of 2 girls living in NC. I've dabbled in photography on and off but really this is just for fun
