We've known for a while that Delaney's teeth were not growing in correctly. Her two teeth next to her front teeth are growing in practically in the roof of her mouth! Today the inevitable happened: she started with braces.
Dr. Bo only put 2 brackets on her front teeth and there's no wire yet. The major work is being done on her palet. She has a palet expander now that we have to turn twice a day. We are hoping it makes enough room for those 2 teeth to move up front. It may require more help than that which is why next time we go (July 24th) she will be getting a wire put in.
Orthodontia has gotten much more aggressive over the past 30 years. I'm astounded at the number of 2nd and 3rd graders with at least partial braces. That was unheard of when I was in school. I'm glad we are getting this moving now though. Dr. Bo said we'd do it in 2 stages. The first being the palet expander for ~6 mo (which translates into more like 8-9 mo) then in a few years, she'll go back in for a full set of braces to straighten the rest of it out. I'm buying stock in GUM wax now.
I'm a mother of 2 girls living in NC. I've dabbled in photography on and off but really this is just for fun
