We got up this morning and headed to Topsail for the day. I took the chance and brought my camera. We had a shelter with us so I was fairly certain it'd be ok as long as I was careful and didn't do anything stupid like take off the lens or drop it in the ocean.
I brought it along with me as KC and I took a short stroll down the beach where I found these glasses just sitting there on the sand. There were no footprints around it and I thought it was very odd that they had been washed up on the beach and landed so perfectly upright. I stopped to take some shots and completely put a halt to foot traffic walking behind it. I must say people were very conscientious about photogs. Many people would stop to stay out of my shot! In this case, the man was very intrigued about why I'd take a pic of random sunglasses on the beach. He watched me quizzically as I basically laid down in the sand to get this shot and then got up and walked away leaving the glasses right there in the sand. Oh well, some people will just never understand. (35mm, f5, 1/2000)
We spent the day from 11am to about 4pm on the beach. I even went in the water which I never do due to a fear of being eaten by sharks. As long as I could keep my mind off the possibility, it was rather fun. We packed up and headed in for dinner. We had Floyd with us so our dinner possibilities were few. We either needed to find a place that had outside dining and would allow dogs or a place with parking in the shade. I was astounded that the only place on the island that could accomodate us was a hole in the wall bar that when we pulled up, both KC and I decided it was not a place we wanted to take the girls. Plus, 3 of us wanted shrimp and that place was a sandwich shop. Shade at the beach is nearly impossible to find so KC and I remembered a place we'd been to years ago up in Sneads Ferry. Neither of us could remember the name of it though. Calls to both his mother and sister proved fruitless. A Google search gave a a few options so we took a chance that it was The Riverside Cafe. Turns out we were correct AND it had a shady parking lot. I haven't had shrimp that good in YEARS!!!!!!
On our way out of town, we stopped to get a coffee at a local shop, Port City Java. We got there 2 minutes before they closed but they were gracious enough to allow to sit and get a picture for our "Coffee Shop Page" in this year's album.
We got home later than I had hoped but all in all it was a really good day and we all managed to escape getting badly sunburned. We all have a little pink on us somewhere but who doesn't get that when they spend 5 hours on the beach?
I'm a mother of 2 girls living in NC. I've dabbled in photography on and off but really this is just for fun
