As we were hanging around on the dock, this butterfly fluttered around for a while. At first it lighted on a shoe. I got a few pics but honestly pics of a butterfly on a shoe would most definitely not go in my book of great pics. Eventually he landed on the railing and amazingly enough, allowed me to get close enough to get a decent picture of him. Granted, I still had to crop it down and a railing, while a better backdrop than a shoe, is hardly a winner either but given my 2 choices, I'll take the railing.
If i had a chance to do it again, I'd up the f-stop to 3.2 because the edge of the right wing is soft focused but that's why I shoot every day: to learn. (ISO100, 70mm, f2.8, 1/640)
Here's another pic I got of him straight on. I liked the way the rocks in the background looked but even then, I'm not wild about the bokeh. That was a common complaint I read about the Sigma lens so I can't say I wasn't prepared for it. (ISO 100, 70mm, f2.8, 1/640)
I'm a mother of 2 girls living in NC. I've dabbled in photography on and off but really this is just for fun
