Mandy had computer problems this evening so brought Molly with her to play while KC attempted to fix it. The girls were happily playing upstairs when we realized it was 7:00 and they hadn't eaten anything yet. We heated up some chicken parm and cut up some apples and sat them down for a meal. The three of them were having such a good time I had to snap a pic but it was rather uninspiring so I played with some LR4 presets and came up with this. This is LR Preset B&W Look 1. I know Macy's arm is in front of her face but it was the interaction of those two in contrast with Delaney's face that made this one better than the rest of the shots from the night.
Here's another preset: Direct Positive. It bosted some of the colors and gave it depth that was washed out by using the flash.
One more: Cross Process 2. The campy feel appealed to me given they were just 3 little girls playing on a Friday night with not a care in the world. I use the word "campy" because it reminds me of some of the old photos I've seen of my grandparents at the old camp back in the day. Sitting around playing cards, drinking beer and smoking cigarettes. Nostalgia has a place here.
On a sad note, I had to return my 70-200 today. I received the filter for it this morning. I sat down to put it on and it was taking me a while. I've had some trouble getting the threads to line up on some lenses before but this was taking much longer. I figured I had lost my ability to screw in a filter and asked KC if he could do it. He tried and failed and failed again. Then he looked at the threads and found they were bent! It had obviously been dropped and the filter threads had taken the brunt of it. No way was it going to accept a filter and no way was I going to shoot a $2k lens without one so I called Adorama and told them the problem. They immediately sent me a return label and instructions and told me they would credit my card or send me a replacement as soon as they received it and looked it over for other damage but that it'd take up to 8 business days. I need it before then so I asked them if I could buy the other used lens that was more expensive and get free overnight shipping since I'd already paid shipping on this one once. They agreed but..... the used inventory is in their NY warehouse (the are in NJ) so they couldn't ship it today and Mon & Tues are Jewish holidays so they can't ship it until Wed and I'll have it on Thur. Better than nothing I suppose.
I'm a little disappointed they didn't catch this. It was rated "E" and as you can see in their description of how they rate, "E" should be completely functional. I do not consider a bent filter thread functional. To their credit, they did do everything I asked them to do. I did not have to pay for any shipping and they were extremely polite so they keep my business for now. If the replacement lens, which was rated "E+", comes in with ANYTHING wrong with it, I will no longer consider them a source for anything.
I'm a mother of 2 girls living in NC. I've dabbled in photography on and off but really this is just for fun
