Day 2 of competition and my nerves are shot. It started out rough. Delaney was on floor first and put in one of the best routines she'd ever done. We were all thinking 9 something. The judges apparently saw things no one on the face of the planet saw and she ended up with a 8.475. We were shocked, and not in a good way. We were all worried that it would shake her but she came back with a 9.375 vault, 9.125 bars and even with a fall, had a 8.8 on beam. For those of you who don't know, a fall costs .5 so if she had stayed on, it would have been a 9.3!!!! She was amazingly solid on that routine and we were as proud of her for getting back up and putting in a nearly perfect second half as we would have been if she'd actually gotten that 9.3.
Above was her handstand forward roll. I keep telling her she needs to smile during floor and win some cute points but she's so serious, it's just not in her. She'll have to get that 9.0 so she can change her end pose the hard way; a simply beautiful routine. She has another opportunity next week.
As always, I was wide open with a 1/500 shutter speed letting the ISO float. Here are the rest of the pictures:
