The girls competed in High Point today at the Diamonds and Denim Invitational. What a fantastic meet! The host gym, High Point Gymnastics, ran a very smooth and extremely fun meet. There was dancing and fun games after each session. It really made for a fun event. I really hope we get to go back next year.
Macy went first and while her performance wasn't terrible, it wasn't her best. I chalk it up to being tracked out which always lends itself to a less focused Macy. Looking at these picture I can see she looks a bit tired to me. Perhaps I should have gotten her to bed a little earlier this past week. Oops! My bad! She missed 3rd all around and a really nifty snow globe by a tie breaker. Still, she had fun and that's what counts.
After Macy's session we had a few hours to kill before Delaney's session. We went to geta late lunch/early dinner at Liberty Steakhouse and Brewery. (I know it's a shocker for those of you know KC.) Delaney changed in the mall bathroom and did her hair in the hallway. There wasn't much going on at the mall. It's about to close. Then she was on!
Delaney had an AMAZING meet. The age groups were larger than normal and she was in with 8 Sonshine gymnasts, many of them were significantly older than her. The scoring was fair but tough. For the first time ever, Delaney put down 4 clean routines. She had 9+ on everything except floor where she was .05 away from a 9. Of particular interest: 1) She beat Claire Wall on bars, vault and all around. (Don't get me wrong, Claire is a sweet kid. She's the gymnast with whom Delaney has been competing for 2 years and it's a friendly rivalry.) 2) Delaney had a 9.375 on beam and took 2nd (behind Claire Wall, of course, who had a 9.425.) 3) Delaney didn't get a trophy but was proud of herself and there was no grumbling. We were all very proud of her. That was some tough competition.
I'm a mother of 2 girls living in NC. I've dabbled in photography on and off but really this is just for fun
