Our family loves a wood fire. When we remodeled a few years ago, we considered replacing our wood fireplace with a gas log but decided against it. Nothing compares to the smell and sound of an honest to goodness wood fire on a chilly night.
That's a LOT of wood!
We were running low on wood so Craig's List to the rescue. In years past we have gotten a truckload of wood for around $100 delivered. Everyone claims it's seasoned but when you ask them how long, it's usually about a year, 18 mo at most. When this guy responded it was at least 2 years and only wanted $95 for a truckload, we jumped on it. We could tell just by picking it up that it was indeed well seasoned. It has an aged look to it and it was hollow sounding when dropped on the driveway. Both good signs. Another bonus: he didn't just dump some logs into the back of his truck. He carefully packed it so it was optimized, meaning it was more and better than we usually get for even less money than we usually spend. No complaints here!
The girls helped us stack it and then even helped clean up. During clean up they found some interesting beetles among the scraps so Delaney decided to put it in a bug box. I don't know if it's still in there but it made her happy for a while.
I'm a mother of 2 girls living in NC. I've dabbled in photography on and off but really this is just for fun
