This morning as I was walking the dog, I noticed a tiny little turtle on the path. The girls have been asking to get a turtle on and off. I had one in a little bowl when I was growing up and I thought, "What the heck! It'll make them so happy!" We have blood worms for the beta already and I was pretty certain turtles could eat them. I needed to go to the pet store to get food for Floyd today anyway so I would pick up a little bowl for the thing too.
Just to make sure that blood worms were a viable food source, I checked on-line. The girls wish I hadn't. What I found out is that if we wanted to keep this little guy healthy, he really needed a lot more than we used to give them; namely a 20 gallon tank, a heat source, a water filter and pump, special rocks, a plethora of different kinds of food. All in all it would have cost us upwards of $300 for this thing. NOPE! Not doing that! When did keeping a pet turtle become a major financial investment!?!?!
I learned a few hours later that today just happened to be Turtle Day! I thought that was pretty strange!
I did keep him in a plastic container with some water and a rock for the day until the girls got home just so they could see him. He crawled up their arms, Macy dropped him on the floor and we let him go in our back yard in the stream. Macy named him Midnight and we wish him well.
I don't normally go with KC and the girls to Crema in the morning. I'd rather sleep. Today was special though. Kevin and Regina have sold the business and today was their last day. While it's not the place for me that it is for KC and Delaney, but I feel some loyalty to it so we all dragged ourselves out of bed for one last farewell.
This was my favorite picture of the day. Delaney settled down to do her homework and I snagged her reading her book. The light was nice and soft coming in through the window. I added a soft vignette in LR and boosted the contrast slightly but that's about it.
I'm a mother of 2 girls living in NC. I've dabbled in photography on and off but really this is just for fun
