There are some advantages to being a second child. Sure there are fewer baby pictures and entries in the baby book but parents learn from their mistakes and make corrections the next time around. Yesterday I mentioned the lackluster elementary education Delaney had received. This was one of instances where Macy benefited from something Delaney had to endure.
We pulled Macy out of the elementary school we'd been at for 6 years and put her in a STEM school. She is thriving. They have a completely different approach to teaching and it's made a huge difference for Macy.
At the beginning of the year she was encouraged to enter the science fair. She was given fantastic guidance and her project on earthquakes won 1st place for 4th grade experiments, qualifying her for the Regional fair, which was held today. There were about 90 elementary school projects entered and while she didn't place, it was a very good experience for her.
25% of the score was the interview. I could not be there next to her as she had to answer questions from adults she'd never met. That was huge for her. Despite my efforts to get her to speak up, Macy struggles to articulate when interacting with new people. Once she knows and is comfortable with someone, she's fine but those first few minutes, she is honestly scared to speak.
I'm very proud of her. She faced that fear and answered the questions well. I cannot testify as to how articulate or audible she was, but she did it. Afterward, she even stated that it wasn't that bad. I hope she will embrace this experience and be able to draw on it for future interactions. There's more to be learned from any project than just the facts. This
