We were very fortunate that both recitals were scheduled for the same day so my mother could come down to see them and that it worked out that Macy's was an hour after Delaney's. If it had been the other way around, we would have run into trouble. Mrs. Cook only has a few students and her recitals last all of 25 minutes. Ian has an entire school's worth of kids. He adjusted it from last year when the recital lasted 2 and a half hours! This year, he had 3 sessions so we only had to endure about an hour. Both girls played brilliantly as did Olivia. I'm so proud of them all. The hard work and practice they've put in is definitely paying off.
Neither of these venus were ideal for shooting. The nursing home is poorly lit with glare off the piano and the pictures hanging on the wall and I have to shoot over the tops of people's heads. But I'm pretty good at shooting in low light situations. I just know I'll have to bump the noise reduction. At least I don't need to shoot at 1/500!
Macy's recital was in a church that had a huge wall of windows directly behind where the kids were performing. It was beautiful to look at but can you say back light? I immediately recognized this issue and took several test shots to figure out just how much I needed to overexpose. I still needed to play with it significantly in LR5.
All in all, a pretty good day.
I'm a mother of 2 girls living in NC. I've dabbled in photography on and off but really this is just for fun
