Halloween is one of my favorite days of the year. What other day does one get to dress up like a food and go around to your neighbors begging for candy? It just doesn't get any better than that!
Our neighbors are either great or terrible. By that I mean: only about 50% of the houses around us participate but those that do don't mess around. No Necco wafers, popcorn or smarties around here! We got the GOOD STUFF! Several houses even gave out full sized candy bars! It's a good thing we are tracked out though. The girls were up way too late and ate way too much candy. Tomorrow we will sleep in!
The K's stopped by as we were headed out to trick or treat with the Jones's so I took a picture of them with our girls and some of their friends from up the street. Then we met up the Gabby an Allie and got a nice shot of them too.
On our way back to the house we stopped by our next door neighbors. They have a new born but that didn't stop them from getting in to the spirit! They even dyed the dog to look like a tiger!!! Awesome!
One last one for the day. I told you I'd get you a picture of the pumpkins all lit up and here they are. Delaney chose a design out of a book but Macy drew hers all by herself. I think they both came out very well!
I had to work today so I was in the car again. After all that driving around we did yesterday then driving all over for my 3 patients, I was in need of gas. As I stood there waiting for the pump, I noticed this guy on the pump. I poked at him a little but he didn't budge so I decided to take a picture. I think he was dead but because he's an insect and it was very cold maybe he was just in a cryogenic state?
I know this is another pretty bad one but it was a long day. I was lucky to get even this.
Today the girls and I had a list of things to do a mile long. We headed out early and started checking things off. We had to drop off some things, pick up some things and buy things. About 1/2 way through the morning, Delaney looked up at me and said, "Mommy, I'm kind of looking forward to getting my glasses now." I was relieved to say the least. The funny thing was, not a 1/2 hr later, my phone rang. It was Dr. Tucker's office calling to let me know that her glasses were in and ready for pick up! Fortunately, we had some time later in the afternoon so we made that one of our many stops for the day. She put them on and looked at things that were right around her. She made a face like she wasn't seeing a big difference. I suggested she look at the clock on the wall across the room. The look on her face was so worth every penny we spent on the glasses. For the rest of the day, she continued to peek over the tops at things, then through the lenses with a look of utter amazement on her face. I love that!
It was time for the annual gutting of the pumpkins today. Delaney dug right in and got herself all gooey up to her elbows. Macy reluctantly used a spoon to scoop some of it out but adamently refused to get her hands dirty. What a princess! In the end though, they came out well. I'll post pictures of them all lit up in a few days.
I was still shooting P mode since it was still set at that from yesterday and these were quick snapshots. The more I see, the less I like P mode.
Two different Trunk or Treats asked me to cover their events today: one at the gym and the other at school. Fortunately, I could do an hour or so at the first one and then go to the second one and do another hour or so there. I didn't get paid for any of it but that's OK, I did it for the kids. Since neither of them was likely to yield a earth shattering photo, I opted to shoot JPG and save on space. I had my flash on at the gym since we all know the lighting in there is horrendous but once I got to school, I found it was better to leave it off. I had my 24-70mm on and it sufficed. I didn't feel the need to lug around the biggie, plus it would have made getting some shots more difficult since there were so many people around. Getting far enough away would have been problematic in many instances.
No discussion on settings or anything since I was working in P mode. After this though, I have decided I don't really like P mode and will probably leave it on A mode when I'm doing low brow shooting.
Here are some others I kind of liked.
We got up this morning and headed down to the waterpark. I took my camera and got a few pictures before hitting the water slide one last time. The girls had a good time in the wave pool while I meandered around the outside to get a decent shot. I only had my 24-70mm on so I had to do quite a bit of cropping. I started with the flash on while I was fairly close and managed to get this one. Then I was too far away for the flash and had to open up the aperture for the 2 below.
Before putting the camera away, I had to get some pictures of them with the big bucket dumping water on them. Good thing I did it last, The mist from it completely covered my lens. There was no shooting anything after that until I had a chance to clean off the lens.
OK so this is marginally better than yesterday but it is better. We made a kind of last minute decision to go to Great Wolf for a night. KC was flying through Charlotte so the girls and I got up this morning packed the car and drove out there to pick him up from the airport then went to the lodge. For dinner we went to a regional chain, "Cheddars." The food was pretty good and on the way out we saw these cars all lined up in the parking lot so I took a few pictures. Obviously I did a major crop. It was a bit hazy so I had to play with the contrast as well.
What Cheddars apparently is known for is their margaritas. KC had their Grande. It was as big as Delaney's head!
This was the only picture I took today. I came down with a zinger of a headache and this was all I could manage to get off. I didn't even take multiple versions of it. This was it.
Eyal and I shot football for Premier this evening. The light was infinitely better than last week's kickball fiasco. I had to slow down the shutter from my typical 1/500 thus the slight blur on the ball but I think I managed to get some pretty nice shots. This was my favorite of the night and I got it within minutes of the start of the game. He not only caught it, but ran it in for a touchdown.
Here are the other pics I got that I liked:
I'm a mother of 2 girls living in NC. I've dabbled in photography on and off but really this is just for fun
